GENERAL DESCRIPTION
FORTA® AR® (Asphalt Reinforcement) is a synthetic fiber blend designed for use in conventional and modified HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt) applications. The proprietary FORTA® AR® blend consists of unique twisted-bundle polypropylene networks to aid in mixing and distribution, and high-strength, high temperature Aramid monofilaments to reinforce and improve HMA properties.

APPLICATIONS
FORTA® AR® is designed to three-dimensionally reinforce HMA pavements by controlling reflective cracking, shoving, rutting and other stability-related problems. FORTA® AR® has been used in both surface and base courses of asphalt pavements and overlays. Specific application areas include streets, roadways, commercial and industrial parking lots, and residential driveways. 

INSTALLATION
Recommended dosage rate of FORTA^® AR^® is 1.0 pound per ton of HMA.  FORTA^® AR^® bags are opened and emptied into the pug mill as early in the batching sequence as possible, required no change to mixing times for most batching systems.  An increase of 0.1% liquid asphalt is generally recommended to accommodate the additional surface area created with this standard fiber dosage.

FORTA® AR® can be purchased from FORTA Corporation or an authorized FORTA® products distributor, dealer or representative. Orders are shipped within 24 hours by small package services, commercial carrier, or air freight.

FORTA® AR® is warranted to be free of defects and to meet all quality control standards set by the manufacturer. FORTA Corporation has no control over the design, production, placement or testing of the asphaltic concrete products in which AR® fiber is incorporated, therefore FORTA Corporation assumes no responsibility for the end products.

FORTA Corporation’s technical recommendations regarding synthetic fiber characteristics are based on years of engineering research and scores of projects. FORTA has developed a simple “4-C’s” formula to help the specifier choose the right fiber for any project application. By making a decision with each of the FORTA® “4-C’s” categories – Configuration, Chemistry, Contents, and Correct Length–specifiers are assured of obtaining the desired fiber performance level for a given project. The following 4-C’s Formula Specification has been prepared to accommodate the stated reinforcement objective for this FORTA product grade.

SUB-SECTION – SYNTHETIC FIBROUS REINFORCEMENT

Synthetic fibrous reinforcement shall be used in the areas denoted in plans, and shall comply with the following fiber characteristics:

1. Configuration – Fiber shall be a blend of twisted-bundle network fibers and high-strength monofilament fibers.
   
2. Chemistry – Fiber shall be made of polypropylene (twisted-bundles) and Aramid (monofilaments).
   
3. Contents – Fiber shall be used at a minimum dosage rate of 1.0 pounds per ton (.9 Kg. Per 2 tonnes) of Hot Mix Asphalt.
   
4. Correct Length – Fiber length shall be 3/4” (19mm) for surface-course mixes. Longer 1-1/2” (38mm) fibers may be considered for larger-aggregate base mixes.
